Why is ficar not appropriate for this case?


Why is "é" being used? Don't you generally use "estar" when talking about location?


If the place can't "move", use "ser". Onde é o banco? " "é ali à esquerda?". You could use "estar" if, for instance, your friend had told you how to get to the bank and then you go downtown to look for it. After walking around for a while and you still can't find it, you may call him and ask: "ONDE ESTÁ O BANCO!?!?"
