Learning with a friend

Hello all! I've recently started learning Esperanto (for the third time) with a friend, and I'm extremely motivated to learn this time. I was planning to wait for the Duolingo course to come out, but my friend approached me and said he wanted to learn Esperanto with me. His reason? He wanted to talk to me in a foreign language. A very small reason, but learning it with him has caused me to become very motivated (and excited as ever for the Duolingo course!) to learn as much as I can. I know that this motivation probably won't wear off as easily as it has before, because I have someone to keep me going. I can't see my friend in person, he moved off to Kentucky two years ago, but we often text and make Skype calls on the weekends. We've mainly been using Google Translate and then copying and pasting it into our text messages (which isn't the best way to learn, but it helps). With my prior knowledge of Esperanto grammar and what I'm currently learning on Lernu, I can slightly understand what's going on with grammar-wise, and I'm quickly broadening my vocabulary.

I think that learning with other people is a great way to learn, and I was wondering if anyone has done it before and if they've found success through it.

Thank you for reading my lengthy and probably boring post!

Update: Sadly, just an hour after posting this, my friend and I skyped, and he told me that he did not want to learn Esperanto anymore and he tried to find another language that we can learn together. We made a long list of things we wanted to learn, and researched each country that the language was from. He wants to learn Turkish, so we ended up with Turkish. The thing is, I don't want to learn Turkish. I find it extremely difficult, and I have other language priorities that I need to dedicate myself to. I just don't have the resources available to learn Turkish. I'm going to let him know that I do not want to learn Turkish, and that I'll stick with Esperanto.
