If you are a boy: Je suis allé ...
If you are a girl: Je suis allée ...

Je suis allé à la plage - I went to the beach

I thought it was ''la plage''? Or is playa also sometimes used in French?

I was wondering.. Thats what i meant by changing the noun. I do that sometimes too :) Lol one time I was on a trip in the German speaking part of Switzerland (I also learn German but not on duo so I don't confuse my French) and I was going bowling and had to ask for shoes in my size. I accidentally said 'septundreißig' instead of 'siebenundreßig' and the woman thought I had said 36 so I ended up wearing shoes that were a size too small because I didn't want to admit my mistake! Lol

You should do German on Duolingo too! If stefott can finish all five skill trees, then you can learn German and French. If you're already learning German outside of Duolingo, why not add Duolingo as one of your tools for studying it!

Interestingly, it happens to be a common thing to say, 'la playa' instead of 'la plage', in colloquial French. To sound funny/smart/hip, or whatever.

Also (boy or girl the same):

  • J'allais (imparfait)
  • J'allai (passé simple)

Hmm, but there is a semantic difference between passé compose, imparfait and passé simple. (Correct me if I'm wrong):

The passé composé is used for completed actions:

  • Je suis allé à la plage - I went to the beach

And for actions that happened a specific amount of times:

  • Je suis allé à la plage deux fois - I went to the beach twice
  • Je suis allé à la plage hier - I went to the beach yesterday

The imparfait is used for incomplete actions:

  • J'allais à la plage - I was going to the beach

And actions that happened regularly:

  • J'allais à la plage tous les jours - I went to the beach every day \/ I used to go to the beach each day

These two tenses are combined in sentences like:

  • J'allais à la plage quand je vous ai vu - I was going to the beach when I saw you.

Where you use the imparfait for the longer event (j'allais à la plage) and the passé composé for the thing that happened while you were doing that (je vous ai vu)

Then there is the passé simple which is semantically equivalent to the passé composé:

  • J'allai à la plage - I went to the beach

But you should never use this in spoken French (unless you want to sound snobby) because it is a literary tense.

I wouldn't say never ever, but almost never. However as you could cross it, it's good to know its conjugation etc. but clearly not a priority.

No, you go to the same beach, whether you're a boy or a girl. :)
