Wouldn't it be nice if there were badges on Duolingo, just like the popular learning site Khan Academy. It would at least drive people to study more, and there could be coins for earning certain badges. Is this a good idea?

It's already been suggested.

Can you please give some links to the discussions?

"Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges!"

PS: Actually I'm okay with the idea - it just reminded me of this scene.

I was literally about to say this....Beat me to it! ;)

Can you detailed the concept? What would the badges be used for?

Well, badges are a kind of awards system in KA(Khan Academy). So badges could be awards here! Some times you get coins from them(points, lingots, etc.) There are different levels of badges, and some could be given for streaks and such. Check out KA if need be. By the way, KA is free, just like Duolingo. I think using them both is a good idea!

Well, personally, I don't see the interested in such a thing. We already have skill points, level and "lessons validation". But it's just my opinion.

I'd rather get frequent flyer miles on Air France ;-)
