Real life article translation

If I by mistake (and in my eagerness) try to change a translation without having first pressed alter/change the article disappears completely! I cant retrieve/find it anywhere! This must be a problem others have had as its an easy mistake to make. Must be a fault in the structure of the program. Can this be altered?
