Do you put "el" & "la" there to stress the importance of the object or is it about location. Es mío = It is mine (but not in sight). Es el mío = It is mine (right there)

I don't know, could be both importance or location. (I'm a native Spanish speaker, I don't really know why that's like that, sorry :/)
