I feel like you could omit the article in english too. Am I wrong about this? English is my native language by the way.

"Translation:I am a defender." If this is the translation, shouldn't the original be: "Ik ben een verdediger." ?

Een in front of an occupation in these kind of sentences is optional in Dutch.
