Mijn avontuur met het Nederlands: de gouden uil is eindelijk van mij!
After incredibly funny months advancing through my Dutch tree since its release, I’m finally done! It was an amazing learning experience, and certainly my favorite course in Duolingo. I fell in love with Dutch a little time before this course became available, and since then, Duolingo has become by far my favorite learning resource. Bedankt, Team Dutch, for all your hard work, this course is just incredible and improved my learning in so many levels!
Language learning has always played an important role in my life since I was a boy and realized that my biggest dream was to become a diplomat – a goal I hope to accomplish in a not-so-distant future. Learning Dutch has then helped me to learn many things about Dutch culture, which I believe to have made me even more confident about my professional choice. I believe that every time we start to learn a new language, we turn into an improved version of ourselves, and I’m very glad for everything that this Dutch experience has granted me. I had so much fun that I didn’t even bother to finish my tree quickly, I just wanted to learn things in my own pace and make sure to keep the vocabulary fresh in mind.
Buuuut I’m sure that this avontuur is not over! I look forward to take my studies into another level and diversify my learning resources. There is not plenty of Dutch learning resources available here in Brazil, but with the books I was able to find and all the helpful sources available online, I think it will not be a problem. And since I intend to become fluent someday, I have absolutely no hurry.
My next step is to finish Harry Potter en de Steen der Wijzen, which I’ve been reading for a while. I had a lot of fun discovering the name adaptations (still getting used to “Zweinstein” instead of “Hogwarts”, though) and managed to learn good new vocabulary from Harry, Ron and Hermelien.
Gefeliciteerd! And I agree, it's one of the best DL courses for sure! It's super fun learning this way. :D
Bedankt! This course was indeed a very funny learning experience! :D
Congratulations. It was not easy I am sure and please keep studying. I wrote my own post about my finishing the Dutch tree and you should check that out too (not to brag).
Thank you! :D So, good luck for both of us with our Dutch studies! And congratulations for your tree as well! :)
One tip: things that come up in your life, use them as learning experiences. I am dealing with gymnast problems (I'm not gymnastical for nothing) and though they can be painful, I asked for the Dutch vocab to describe it so that I can learn from it. We all learn what we can relate to the best.
Key advantage of learning subject specific language (a.k.a. jargon) is that you will probably be using it to some extent if and when you do visit the place where the language you're studying lives.
It's the very reason I can't understand much of French yet, but when someone writes a computer science article in it, I can often get about 80% of the content from it anyway.
That is very true! And did you mean "when someONE" (there appears to be a typo there? Speaking of computer science, how would you explain a problem with the volume control? I have had that problem for a few days now and then it spontaneously fixed itself but I don't understand what could have caused it to begin with. Post the answer on my stream since this is an off topic question
- Volumeknop (the actual button)
- Mixer (when regulating multiple sound channels)
Thanks but I meant what could be CAUSING the problem.
Well A) That's off topic,
B) This isn't really the forum for such issues and
C) The issue could be anything of more than a couple thousands. Find a local computer expert (your schools sysadmins maybe?) and they'll be more likely to be able to help you than someone half way around the world.
Gefeliciteerd! Veel succes met je verdere Nederlandse reis en bedankt voor al je goede vragen!
