Hello everyone! As a new member of the duolingo community I must say that I am quite impressed with the languages available to us. You are even working on Klingon! However, I think there is something missing: a Latin course! I am sure that a lot of people would be interested and it would be a great addition to the roster of languages already available. Would someone be willing to start a course on it?
I understand that people have applied; it's probably just a matter of Duolingo's priorities (there are lots of "living" languages out there that people want to learn too!).
In the meantime, a user has been putting together Latin lessons in the spirit of Duolingo:
A lot of people have shown interest in a Latin course. However it has not been added to the language incubator yet. At least the last time I checked. Anyway I agree that it'd a great addition as Latin has been of vast influence to many Germanic languages.
Before they let people build a course they want to make sure those people have gotten their knowledgde of the certain language from a reliable source. So probably they're still looking for trustworthy course contributers. Anyway I'm quite sure they will add Latin to the incubator in the near future and we'll be able to learn Latin here some day! Have a great day!
I have applied to contribute to one (I teach high school Latin) but received no response. I plan on reapplying to see what happens this time. I would love to see a course get added.
There have been a few Dou users that have started Latin courses on their own, including one last week by a Latin teacher of many years. I believe it was called Latin Lovers: Directory. You should be able to find it and other Latin courses by using the Search box on the Discussion Page.

I don't know Latin myself, but I'd like to learn it! I will try to rally a few friends that know it.
