I have never actually heard of a swineherd before. Danish is teaching me so much English haha.
I was wondering the same thing. Wouldn't the English translation be pig herder? Otherwise it sounds like she's kissing a group of pigs.
Here it would be the kissing the herd of pigs. the pit farmers call themselves pig farmers. Sounds pretty unkosher to me. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/7b/a6/41/7ba641913e46cf31cf70d1bdb6e2bc29.jpg
Nevertheless, swineherd is the correct English expression in this context; although "pig farmer" is the more common modern expression.
People used to allow their pigs to roam, foraging for their food in forests. Which means someone had to herd them.
That's true, but not always. I've seen pigs walking/lying nearby a village once.
