Você não me disse." I translated this as you didnot tell me but duolingo gave "you have not told me" I am asking why is is not possible also to say "you did not tell me"

"you didn´t tell me" and "you did not tell me" are the same, why is first not accepted?

You say something (to somebody). You said that you couldn't go. /// You didn't say that you couldn't go.

You tell somebody something. You told Bill that you couldn't go. /// You didn't tell Bill that you couldn't go.
