Time zone for streaks

The wiki ( and several other discussions say your streak time zone is locked to the time zone where you created your account. I have never found this to be true.

When I travel and use the mobile apps (iPad or Android) Duo changes its time zone to match where I am. Then, when I return home, the time zone won't change back to my home time zone if I only use Duo through my web browser. So I'm stuck in the other time zone until I complete another lesson using a mobile app when I get home.

I should note I change the time for my mobile devices to match where I am. I don't know what would happen if I didn't do this. But it's interesting the web version doesn't update the time zone at all.

Thanks for clarifying this, I thought it was the case but wasn't sure. I've gone ahead and updated the wiki article.

This didn't work for me. I've done exercises using Windows Phone, iPhone and iPad, and my time zone is still incorrect.

In other places I've read that only the Android app changes Duo's time zone.

In another thread someone pointed this out to me: - there's a script called DuoTweak which you can install, which will let you modify your time zone. This finally did the trick for me, so now I have the correct time zone at last.

I've lost my streak several times now due to this time zone issue. In my case, Duolingo initially set my timezone to US east coast, but I'm actually on the west coast. However, using the mobile app doesn't seem to have fixed the issue for me. I've tried it on both my Windows Phone and my wife's iPhone. This is driving me crazy, and I can't get a response from Duolingo support about it.

I also have lost streaks multiple times due to time zone tracking differently on PC than on Android, three hours off. Android has shifted with travel between time zones, but somehow PC app got off so any work I do after 9 p.m. on PC (like stories) is credited to next date. Any suggestions short of adding script myself?

Thanks for your post. Just to be sure (I'm going to travel soon): do you mean that once you use the app, the web changes to match your current time zone? Or the website remains "locked" on your original time zone?

And my experience has been that it does change when I use Duolingo on Android. The last lesson you do will set your time zone. It definitely appears to be more complicated than what I wrote earlier this year. It would be nice if Duo could clear this up for us. The only thing I'm sure about (or was when I wrote this) is that using the website on my home computer doesn't change my time zone back when I return from a trip. I need to use the Android or iPad to change it back. So as a rule, just make sure to do lessons as often as you can.

Thanks, and congrats on your 19-month-streak :)

My experience has been that my time zone in Duolingo never changes, regardless of where I am or whether I'm using the website or a mobile app.

thanks :)

no da igual. no es importa para mi

I'm not sure what you mean. If you are saying your streak doesn't matter to you, then that's fine. But many of us like the streak and it helps to motivate us to practice every day. I posted this because it's something I realized that didn't match the information I read before. Hopefully it will help someone who does care about maintaining their streak.

I think it's "No me importa" because "importar" is like "gustar."
