French sitcoms or series
If any one could help me find a good French sitcom or series that I could practice my listening and push myself, it would be great.
In learning English, I found it very useful to watch a simple TV series like Friends to learn everyday talk, and I want to try the same method in learning French.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations!
Filmfra, french movies with subtitles in French.
LibertyLand, American movies/series dubbed in French.
Search for them on google, you can watch them online. :D
The Returned on Netflix was pretty good! But be ye warned! There is nudity towards the end of the season. But what would a french show be without nudity
also on netflix is "spiral" a police drama and an anime "wakfu" (i don't know if they are good) that are originally in french and have french audio but only english sub. Also some of the shows that netflix produces, like "bojack" and "daredevil," have french dubs and subs!
"Spiral" in England or Engrenages ("Gears") in France is an entertaining adult show featuring 2014 Parisian French with slang . . .
If you can get video material that isn't dubbed it is better because you can watch the mouth move properly with the French words.

Obrigado! Estou tentando descobrir como assisitir Friends com áudio e legendas em English, no Net Flix só tem com legendas em português e com áudio em English. Thank you.
You could also try French in Action, 52 episodes french language series to learn French. Also Learn French with Victor.
Can't go wrong on YouTube for finding natives to watch and listen to . . .

Hi Sahar, It's a pleasure to help you with some sites that are helpful to me :)
- That's a very famous website for practicing French Grammar exercises.
- That site also has some good exercises and lessons
- This one is awesome, it has some stories with audio. So that you can read them and listen to them
- Tv5 monde : Learning French
- For some vocabulary words try this
Good Luck Sahar with French and Happy Learning!!
If you like learning French through TV, then I’ve got to tell you about FluentU. Now you can learn French from music videos, commercials, news, and inspiring talks. FluentU lets you learn real French – the same way that people speak it in real life. FluentU has a wide variety of videos like movie trailers, funny commercials, and web series: http://www.fluentu.com
I have been watching Buffy contre les vampires for some time as I have been a really big fan of the series. The series isn't as stupid as it seems at first and you should acquire a lot of useful vocabulary.
If you need to improve your listening skills you could listen to audio-books. Harry Potter, Tolkien, Charlie et la chocolatiere (Charlie in the chocolate factory!) They are all very easy to follow (ok, lord of the rings is not :) For the next few weeks I will be listening to 50 nuances of Grey...
You could listen /watch stuff that you already know first. I know it's boring endeavour but you will learn a lot.
I do not know any French shows except these mentioned above :(
AKA "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", in English, by Joss Whedon (did Firefly/Serenity, also excellent, and now doing the Avengers movies and advocate for woman) has attracted its own philosophical books :) As you say, it is deeper than it appears.
I have read one should avoid dubbed French as the mouth does not match the French words. The best is to see (and hear) a native speaker.
https://www.duolingo.com/comment/7666255 - links to "The Returned" French original with English subs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VerCN2daYGQindex=48list=PL5357F089480D091F - Marquis uses puppets (and is risque <- English sense of risque, the French risqué is more usually just risky or to do with possibilities/probabilities although the dated sense of licentiousness is still there AFAIK) so not as good for watching natives but it is a French production inspired by the "Marquis de Sade" who is a famous "naughty" figure in French history (1740-1814) who spent 32 years in prison/asylum, collectively.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZRCG526E9Y - GIGN a French police series with english subs
Le Comte de Monte Cristo (The Count of Monte Cristo) - with Gérard Depardieu is an old (1998) and excellent TV mini-series production in four parts and is available with subs (there was a youtube link but it was taken down).
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0167565/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2 (8 out of 10, ignore the corny trailer for US audiences, it is in French with English subs)
For 2014 modern slang Paris French you can't beat "Engrenages" (means "gears" in French, as in the complex gears of police and law in Paris, but is shown in England as "Spiral") and you can buy it with English subs. Police drama with a tough woman in charge of a unit dealing with the unique French legal system. She says "Merde !" a lot!

J'aime French in Action, and Extr@ I recently discovered Hollywood Speaks French All good for beginners, as the speakers aren't talking too fast. I'm a big fan of Les Revenants. For understanding French spoken more quickly, Kaamelot is very funny.
Thanks, some good ones there:

https://www.duolingo.com/comment/7666255 - Les Revenants ("The Returned") - a French original remade in the US (not as good), this is the original French version that @-TashaJ- posted on Duolingo with subs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2g9IXMH1ZU - Kaamelot looks funny, could not find with subs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36tGfa7c0J8 - the popular series on Canal+ in 2015 (some dubs and some French originals) Broquo (mentioned by @sps1919) is on Canal also . . .
BONUS (for adults)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jjCy2hO8a0 "Learn English with Ricky Gervais" and Karl Pinkington with French subs (see if you can spot the mistakes in the French subs) featuring (only) the French word fromage (cheese) !
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hJQsvoY6VU - short French lesson with Eddie Izzard . . . Duolingo is not the only place some "less useful" French phrases are taught :)
La souris est au-dessous de la table. "The mouse is underneath the table."
Le chat est sur la chaise. "The cat is on the chair."
Le singe est sur la branche. "The monkey is on the branch."
My pleasure, sorry we all strayed from the assignment: TV Series in French ;)
I would suggest this one:
Specially designed for learners, you can find Extr@ on YouTube here.
As for "real" shows (that is, not for learners) there are some pretty good ones out there like Les Revenants which was pretty successful or Tunnel, both in French and English (double practice for you :p).
The sitcom Plus belle la vie is pretty basic but that's what's great when you're learning: the stories and vocabulary used are pretty limited so you get more and more words quite fast!
Some funny videos: Avez-vous déjà vu is composed of plenty of very short videos (one minute long). The most famous one is here.
And a show I discovered recently is a webseries called Le Voyageur du futur. All of the episodes are on YouTube, with English subtitles for the third and fourth seasons. It's science fiction, very funny, full of slang, and it's kinda fun to watch this little group go from a little show with no budget to an actual series that was broadcast on TV: the first season is here.
Hope that helps! :)
I searched something like "Friends" (I love it) in French. Maybe this is some alternative.
Hélène et les garçons (Helen and the boys). It is a spin-off from the series First Kisses, and follows Hélène Girard and her friends in their life as students.
Here it is with French subtitles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TL_FKR0evr8
I think as a child I have saw it on TV.
P.S. Topic is great! French in Action seems good for me.
