Förstå vs. begripa?

In Dutch verstaan is used differently than begrijpen... Is it the same in Swedish? Is förståra for understanding something, like a language, and begripa for like understanding concepts/ideas? Or are they 100% interchangeable like in German, like verstehen/begreifen?

First of all the verb is "att förstå", "jag förstår". You could use förstå anywhere, and replace begripa with förstå in any case I can think of. Begripa is, as you're saying, mostly used for concepts and can not replace förstå in every case. For example "Jag förstår svenska." is correct, but "Jag begriper svenska." is understandable, but is not typically used. So I guess Swedish is more like Dutch than like German in this case.

In my opinion the German pair verstehen/begreifen fits exactly to your explanation of förstå/begripa. "Verstehen" can replace "begreifen", but "begreifen" can not replace verstehen in every case. In German also you wouldn't say "Ich begreife Schwedisch." but rather "Ich verstehe Schwedisch." Apparently it's the same concept for all three Dutch, German and Swedish.
