In Dutch, the quote would be "Spiegeltje, spiegeltje aan de wand, wie is de mooiste van het land?" :)

(A 'wand' is a wall made of wood in a room, but can also refer to a "normal" wall)

I thought kijk was more close to "to search" compared to "to look"

Nope. 'Kijken' definitely is closer to 'to look' than to 'to search'.
I strongly encourage you to compare 'to search', 'to look', 'to watch', 'zoeken', and 'kijken'. The differences are both subtle and important.
