What does this sentence mean to you: Où sont les couverts ?

I typed, where are the covers but the correct response is apparently where is the silverware. Anyone? Why was my response wrong?

Covers is couverture I believe.

There are a lot of "false friends" like this in many of the romance languages. "Pregunto" in Spanish, for example means "question," yes - that's right...

I really like the site Wordreference.com, and use it to look up meanings when a word's primary meaning seems off in some way. It contains a lot of alternate meanings of words, and is very helpful learning how to write more like a native would.
