Why was træ considered wrong? Træ is the Danish word for tree and for wood. Brænde is firewood.

I agree that there seems to be a problem here. It would be better if "brænde" = "firewood" as this seems to be the intent with this sentence. I would even be tempted to translate it as "Bjørnen har taget vores skov". As "wood" can be translated to "skov" (= "forest") in Danish.
