Of course, Duolingo should be top of your list, but there are so many resources to complement your studies with Duolingo that it is impossible to be exhaustive. Here are a few (some have non-free elements):

French in Action http://www.learner.org/resources/series83.html (USA and Canada only).
FSI French http://fsi-language-courses.org/Content.php?page=French
RFI French http://www.rfi.fr/lfen/statiques/accueil.asp
Fran├žais Interactif http://www.laits.utexas.edu/fi/home
BBC French http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/french/

I see that you are already doing French on here, but if you want additional help, I would suggest doing Pimsleur. I do it with Duolingo, and it is very helpful if you want to be able to speak the language you are learning well. But, it's not free... I'm not sure how much it is, but not very much.

"Assimil - New French With Ease" is pretty good. There is also "Teach yourself complete French". Not necessarily free, but everything is free on the digital highway.

If you live in a town with a library you could do something called mango

A lot of libraries have Pimsleur too, for various languages.

They also often have Michel Thomas CDs-which I have found very helpful for teaching grammar concepts and speaking practice -if you can get over the accent.

Memrise, but it's just vocab (most of the time). By that I mean they teach you single words, not used in sentences.
