Upvotes not being registered in immersion. Collated stream.
It is clear that there is a widespread problem with immersion upvotes not being registered and consequently tier levels are remaining static. There are two posts currently running concurrently and this is an attempt to collate both posts and their contributors with a view to sending a group report with this link to Duo, rather than all the sporadic individual reports many of us have already made. The links to the two existing streams are:
https://www.duolingo.com/comment/8548892 ..... posted by metrowestjp
https://www.duolingo.com/comment/8550572 ...... posted by languagelover0
The people who have so far responded to those two posts, stating they have a problem are (in no particular order)
There may be others but this was current at the time of writing. I stress, these are just the people who responded to the other two posts, there are undoubtedly many others affected.
If you know of anybody else who has this problem will you please direct them to this post to add their names below.
Please, will you also (irony of ironies) upvote this article so that it gets the widest possible audience and thus (I hope) a more accurate idea of how many people are involved.
Thank you to everyone who is helping and particular thanks to metrowestjp and Languagelover0 for the original posts which highlighted the extent of the problem.
Newly reported :
UPDATE > THE PROBLEM IS NOW SOLVED > THANKS DUO TEAM FOR RESPONDING SO QUICKLY >
Unfortunately, the lost votes are still lost but the system should now be functioning normally. Many thanks to everyone who worked together to ensure the Duo team had as much information as possible to help track the problem down and to the Duo team themselves who fixed the glitch..
THIS STREAM IS NOW CLOSED > THANK YOU EVERYBODY :-)
Thank you for your response.
It does seem a huge pity that the upvotes can't be restored as a lot of people do the majority of their work at weekends. I personally have worked on at least 2 articles which are now completed plus several others which being longer are still in progress and I estimate from what I know from my language partners that I may have lost about 30 to 40 upvotes at a conservative estimate ... all of which would have affected my tier level. and I make no claim to being unique in that regard.
However, at least things should be working normally again and I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say that is a huge relief.
Thank you again for responding to the problem so quickly once you realised it was happening.
Best wishes, Gena.:-)
Following this discussion a very small experiment has been conducted by languagelover0 and myself. Upvotes were made to some of my translations: of approx 50 votes said to have been made, 15 made it through in a period of about an hour. Not sure what conclusions to draw.... not a total blockage but a narrowing of the pipeline?
Thanks for doing that. Just to let you know also that bchan has replied on one of the other threads and I have provided the link to this one with the collated list. There obviously is a problem ... not thank goodness an A/B test (at least that's what it looks like) so maybe we might get some more information soon.
I am new to Duolingo, and am still figuring it out. I have noticed that 'upvotes' seem to be very erratic and mine have not moved for several days despite my translating each day. However, I have also noted from this correspondence that a certain amount of 'mutuality' is sometimes involved (someone reported sending their friend 40 votes) so maybe I am just not yet wise to the game.
Most definitely affected. In the past four days I've translated several hundred sentences (394 in the past two days) but my upvotes have only increased by 3 every other day (no change in downvotes). Hopefully one of us will hear back from DuoLingo soon to set our expectations on when there might be a resolution to this problem.
Don't close the stream! My upvotes are still not being registered:-( I can see that new people have looked at my articles and upvoted my sentences, but I still don't get anymore upvotes..
Hi Anja, I think I know what might be causing that .... I just looked again and you are at level 2 whilst I am at level 1 ..... I didn't realise that before, so my upvotes won't be registering because only somebody of the same tier level or higher can have their upvotes counted. ........ Check the tier levels of the other people who have looked at your work. ..... I hope you'll find that's all it is because I know that both my French and Italian votes are being counted and I am told by friends doing those languages that Spanish and Portuguese are functioning normally. ......... If that's not the problem, write to me on my stream and we'll try between us to find out whether this is an isolated problem or not by checking with other German learners. ..... Fingers crossed that's all it is though. Keep in touch :-))
Yes, someone else just upvoted me and it worked.. Thanks again for clearing that up!
I cannot say if I'm affected as no one can upote for me, but all my (numerous) upvotes haven't been registred, except for one person. Moreover two friends have suddenly disappeared from my list and I receive wrong notification from DL about sentences supposed to be edited, but they are mine. I think I will wait before continuing to upvote.
It seems very unlikely to me that this is an A/B test - I couldn't imagine why they would do this in the first place, but I'd think the upvote bar would be removed altogether for the group involved. Also, I just read through the list of A/B tests in the sourcecode and I didn't see anything that seemed to refer to this.
Thanks sheldolina, it seems clear now that it is a problem as bchan has replied on metrowestjp's post that it is being looked into there. I have provided this link in case it makes it easier to track the problem from a bigger sample.
May I ask if you have been affected and if so, do you wish to be added to the above list.
Many thanks, for checking out the source codes ...I wouldn't know where to start. :-))
Ah, I spent so much time on translations the last couple of days, checking other people's texts and translating my own and now it's still not working for me:-(
I think we can all try to upvote where possible but I don't think we'll be able to find every article or even worse every sentence that was done over the weekend ... However, if there is anything we know about for sure we can try ...... The problem may be that although the upvotes didn't register with the server, they are on the article page itself .... so we may find we can't re-upvote, if you follow my drift.
I'm sorry that you are having problems, there is a "help" button at the bottom of your home page, if it's serious use that and tell 2 moderators. However, if it is something minor, you can just block the person concerned by clicking on the grey wheel at the top right near their name. ........
If you have any other problems, this is not the right place to ask for help, not because, I or anyone else is unwilling to help you but this stream was set up for a specific purpose, now completed and is not being monitored..... I only saw your comment by accident. You are better to either post a question in discussions (if it is language related or like this, refers to abuse), otherwise, you are welcome to contact me on my stream and if I can help, I will but I am no expert.
I hope your diffculty is soon solved but try not to take things personally and walk away from trouble whenever you can. Most important of all, enjoy your learning and have fun.
Good luck and very best wishes Gena :-)
