Prepositions (à or de) plus infinitive: Explanation

I have been very confused by the infinitve so far. It seemed random to me when the infinitive was preceded by à or by de. So I decided to do a bit more research that I would like to share with you here. Please comment if there is something wrong or you would like to add something!

  1. There are verbs who require a preposition when they are followed by an infinitive. verbs followed by à: http://french.about.com/od/grammar/a/preposition_a_2.htm verbs followed by de: http://french.about.com/od/grammar/a/preposition_de_2.htm

  2. Passive infinitive. The infinitive is preceded by à. When a sentence is written in such a way that the infinitive as a passive meaning. http://french.about.com/od/grammar/a/passiveinf.htm

  3. There are different rules for il est and c´est plus preposition plus infinitive. http://french.about.com/od/expressions/a/impersonal.htm

  4. Then there are verbs who do not need a preposition in French while they do need a preposition in English. http://french.about.com/library/prepositions/bl_prep_noprep.htm
