HallÄ alla!

Gymnastical here again and I am posting in support of adding the Immersion feature for the Swedish course. I have recently used the Immersion feature on my other account to learn more about my interests and I must say I love it. It's a fun feature! It also forces me to not think in my own language.

In order to learn a language, one must be able to apply it. Immersion is a great way to do it. Who wants to have to do the searching for ways to apply their language skills? With that feature there's nothing to search for because it's clearly marked right there. Also there is a cheat if you're really lacking understanding of what you're doing. Outside of that, you can't rely on being able to roll over words to see how others translate that sentence.

Not to mention it's fun!

If Duolingo were to add the Immersion feature to the Swedish course, that would likely mean one course worth less people asking for lingots. Why? Because they earn XP faster. With more XP comes leveling up faster. With leveling up comes more lingots.

This post is supposed to be in support of Immersion for the Swedish course so if you have used it in other languages share your POSITIVE experiences below and make convincing arguments if you agree with me. If you have other target languages without Immersion that you would like to see have Immersion, I hereby grant you permission to write your own "Immersion for" post (provided that I am credited) advocating the release of Immersion for that course.

Till next time!

I believe that Swedish lacks Immersion for legal and/or technical reasons, not because they don't want us to have it. It's possible I may be mistaken, but if I'm correct, that means that Duolingo has to overcome those problems before we can get Immersion, no matter how many convincing arguments we users might make.

I would love to see an immersion feature for the Swedish course, but for a reason I don't really understand Duo is ignoring adding this feature because it "costs" more than it rewards. I do not really understand how it costs. I do not think we will be seeing Immersion any time soon, but anyway! I totally support it :)

Duo sells the translations we do in Immersion. I would imagine there simply isn't a big enough market for translations from Swedish (or other less internationally used languages) to make it worthwhile. There is a website called Learning With Texts that does a similar thing (you can look up definitions while reading) which is what I use for Danish and Greek. It's not as user friendly as Duo but it works.
