Reverse tree XP doesn't add to the total

I started the reverse tree today, Spanish to English, but the xp added up separately, doesn't show on my English to Spanish profile, and the reverse tree doesn't show either.

Other people's profiles are showing two or more languages, and my understanding is that all of them add to the total XP but this isn't. How can I get my XP to all show the same place?

Only courses that share the same base language will appear together on your profile. To switch between courses with different base languages, you're limited to using this settings page or the "Add a new course" option in your courses dropdown.

There are a couple userscripts that make it easier to switch between courses with different base languages, but nothing officially supported.

If I understand you correctly, either the regular or reverse tree will show on my profile, but not both at once.

Okay, but what about the XP not adding up to the total?

Shouldn't the total XP show up on either of the profiles?

Yep, exactly. I'm not sure what you're referring to when you talk about the XP totals not adding up though. My leaderboard includes XP from all of my courses, even those from different base languages. Is this not what you see?

Right, that is not what shows up. English to Spanish showed 19,301 XP before starting the reverse tree, which didn't change after doing 210 XP Spanish to English. One profile still shows 19301, and the other shows 210. Any ideas?

I was using a userscript to switch, but removing it made no difference.

I haven't heard of any userscripts causing issues like that, but Duolingo does have known issues with having multiple tabs open with different courses active. I'm not sure whether that applies to you, but what you're describing certainly sounds like the synchronization issues that occur when one gets into that situation.

In any case, try logging out of the site and closing any Duolingo tabs you have open before relogging. That ought to force the Leaderboard to update and get you an accurate count.

They are separate, they don't count together although they did until about nine months ago. The xp will go into your daily, weekly tand monthly totals but not into the all time total that other people see. You will see your all time xp as hıgher than other people see it. For example my alltime xp that I see is about 140000 but to everyone else it is far lower, which makes it useless for comparison.

That's a bummer. The XP should show in the all time totals as well.

Thanks for the info.

I did not know this, thanks!

I am not sure that is correct. I just checked for someone and the data seems to suggest the amount reflected in all-time includes all XPs from language courses with base language English as well as the reverse course (where the base language is different).

Check mine. Does it show just under 140000? I see yours as just over 50000 is that everything? Or do you only work from English.

Mine is 50756 (50438 + 318).

Edit: For you it shows, 81606.

See, that is just the courses from English which are only half of the courses I have done.

I have seen a few cases in which the total XP shown is much reduced. In such instances, usually the levels in the forum also fluctuate quite a lot. But this doesn't seem to be the norm. But, then I may be wrong. I haven't really validated this against much data.

My flags don't show correctly either half the time. Now German is showing at 12 which is my level from Spanish, rather than the 20 it is from English. And french should be 20 not 11 and spanish 19 not 13 etc.

There still is no change. I closed all tabs except one, logged out, logged back in, but the XP total still doesn't show on either profile, and hasn't updated on the leaderboard.

It is normal , I have french from english, french from spanish and french from portuguese, they don't put the xp together , so I would have 25 already .... I am only 17 and in french from english, but they show the flag of french from spanish :/ most of time I stay with 11 :/

Aha, that makes sense.

The all time leaderboard does show the combined total together.

Thanks for clearing this up!
