A couple months ago, Duo added a bunch more lessons for English to German. Here's an updated count:
Checkpoint 1: - 11 topics / skills (8 required, 3 bonus) -- 36 lessons (29 required, 7 bonus)
Checkpoint 2: - 7 topics -- 20 lessons
Checkpoint 3: - 12 topics -- 36 lessons
Checkpoint 4: - 19 topics -- 62 lessons
Checkpoint 5: - 17 topics -- 72 lessons
Checkpoint 6: - 17 topics -- 68 lessons
Checkpoint 7: - 20 topics -- 76 lessons
Checkpoint 8: - 20 topics -- 84 lessons
TOTALS: - 123 topics -- 454 lessons
According to @LugoschPierre, this results in around 2032 words, but it could be as many as 2385. If you've finished the tree entirely, comment the total number of words below!!
Early 2017 UPDATE: I have 10 topics left to go and am currently at 2087 words and definitely noticing new words scattered throughout the topics, so I'm guessing they add them now and again.
It says I've learned 2.055 (2,055 in American) words, and I still have 13 and half skills to go! Es sagt, ich habe gelernt zwei Milliarden funfundfunfzig Worten., und ich habe dreizehn und halbe noch gehen. I probably really butchered that, but I wanted to try anyway. If anybody feels like typing how it should be written, please feel free to edify me! :)

Well, the tree is constantly being update and tweaked. These numbers were correct 5 months ago (as shown in my post above - a new account was used to derive those numbers)- but may not be now... or DuoLingo could just be testing a different number of lessons -they do this often before making perminate changes- and your numbers may not be the final ones. We really don't know, and we don't know which numbers are "correct" or when they will change again. For now, there is nothing wrong with listing varios trees and letting each user decide which tree they fall into.

Double-checking, my AbsOb2=8. My V.Inf2=10. I only assumed they were the same for everyone. You are looking at Spanish?

So, I suggest you give an entirely new set of numbers for the people in your group--whichever group that is. Now know there are at least two groups of people, I guess.
your information is outdated. i have verified this with a friend who has never signed up for the spanish course. when she set it up (today), all the numbers were identical to mine. you and wazzie finished your trees before the changes took effect, so your numbers are incorrect for new users. i suggest you note this in your list.

I intend to add other courses in this sheet too.
Someone should ask duolingo to make this kind of information available
Italian:
First Block (up to first shortcut):
- 9 Skills
- 40 Lessons
Second Block:
- 10 Skills
- 46 Lessons
Third Block:
- 21 Skills
- 139 Lessons
Fourth Block:
- 25 Skills
- 174 Lessons
Total:
- 65 Skills
- 399 Lessons
This will teach you 1791 words :)
I re-counted the Italian course (from English) 31Mar16.
Block 1: --- 11 skills, 45 lessons (including Bonus Skills)
Block 2: --- 9 skills, 40 lessons
Block 3: --- 21 skills, 133 lessons
Block 4: --- 28 skills, 196 lessons
Total: ----- 68 skills, 414 lessons (incl. bonus)
Hope that helps someone. I'm motivating myself by calculating the percentage of lessons I have done. (Which is 278/414 = 67.1% woo hoo). But this is pretty bogus since some lessons have 20 items and some have far fewer. But it's good enough. [ Note proper use of fewer :=) So tempting to just give in and say "less", but no ! that way lies the abyss ! ]
Brilliant to know. I'm half way through my Italian tree on about 1,000 so it's good to see I'm getting somewhere, but 65 skills for the last block looks quite daunting. I do have a bit of vocab beyond DL, so I'd estimate I'm on perhaps 1,500 - 2,000, but it's still some way from the 5,000 figure I often see quoted as basic fluency.
I don't think the amount of words you know says much about your fluency. My English is good enough to read Lolita and get most of the jokes, but if I have to speak it I'll struggle to find the right words. On the other hand, there are probably many people who wouldn't dream of reading Lolita (too difficult) but can stand their own in an English conversation.
Good luck with Italian :)

I want to track what percentage of each course I have completed. When I count the number of nodes on the tree that is displayed on my home page, I do not see the numbers mentioned below. I count 64 nodes for Spanish and 72 nodes for German . How does this reconcile with the 329 and 349 number of lessons mentioned below? Are there nodes that I don't see, or multiple lessons within a node?
Thank you. I have since figured out that the best way to track my progress is by the number of words learned, as a percentage of the number of words in the course. I notice however, that I am credited with words learned only when I complete a lesson for the first time. When I repeat a lesson, I get words that I have never seen before, but my word count does not increase. So I guess that DL counts all the words available in a lesson the first time it is completed, even though some of the words in the lesson are not presented. Have you observed anything like that?

I don't look at the word count often, but probably DL counts the way you describe it here.

Here is what I count -- with subtotals on every line so you can compute your progress NB: Apparently different English=>Spanish learners see different numbers, so different English=>Dutch learners may see different numbers.
