Norwegian Music

When learning a foreign language, I love using music. What are some different music groups/bands that everyone likes? I'd love to know some popular stuff that is currently in Norway, and also just good music sung in that language!

I've been learning Norwegian for a few months now, and so I've started a playlist of Norwegian music on Youtube that's starting to get quite long! I had no idea that there were so many awesome Norwegian artists out there, and it's really fun to click around and discover more! Here's the link to my playlist (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-gdDJ-c2MtAVBACVnsfetq1qGIAw_g5-), but I'll also list a few individual artists if you'd prefer to check them out that way:

Gabrielle, Vamp, Gunnhild Sundli, Vanja, Sval, Innertier, Daniel Kvammen, Marit Larsen, Sondre Justad, Unge Ferrari, Cir.Cruz, Katastrofe, Ingebjørg Bratland, Karpe Diem

One of my favorite Norwegian songs right now is Original by Cir.Cruz - the video is really cute! (https://youtu.be/US_N8x5JOwE)

EDIT: For some reason the playlist link isn't including the final '-' in the html, so make sure you copy the whole code and paste it into your browser that way to listen to it!

Hey! I'm really interested in your playlist, but I get an error when I try to visit the page. It says the parameters are not valid (in French, so I'm not sure how it would say it in English).

You need to copy the entire code in order for it to work. For some reason the link isn't including the last character, so you'll need to manually highlight it and copy and paste it into your browser.

Enjoy!

I love her so much! I love Alle snakker sant (the song, although I love the album too!)

Kaizers Orchestra! So amazing, but they sing in a strong dialect (not the very Oslo-centric one our voiceover lady has here :)) so might be a bit challenging. But you should listen to them anyway, they were an incredible band.

All kids movies are dubbed in Norway, so I would also recommend jumping on YouTube and trying to follow along with Disney/cartoon songs in Norwegian too. Here's Hakuna Matata for starters!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrxaIJN2LLk

Postgirobygget, super daggy 90s band, easy to understand/practice with! Some comedy songs aren't bad either, I used to get quite a bit out of Knudsen & Ludvigsen. Also CC Cowboys -- pub rock.

It's maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but when I'm just trying to get used to the sounds of a language, I like to listen to songs from Disney movies. My only experience with Norwegian Disney is Frozen, which many would call played out. However, as Arendelle is based on Norway, it somehow feels more appropriate than usual! :D

I'd recommend deLillos. They sing in a dialect that is very close to bokmål.

Try listening to some songs by Lillebjørn Nilsen or Øystein Sunde, I think they have quite clear pronunciation and often long and (especially Sunde) funny lyrics :)

I've been listening to Kari Bremnes for quite a while, I don't know how popular she is, and she sings in Nynorsk (I think), but I love her music.

Nynorsk and Bokmål are forms of writing, not dialects.

It really depends on your taste in music, but seeing what people have posted here, I thought I'd add some artists you can listen to that are known in my crowd.

Susanne Sundfør, Admiral P, Lars Vaular, Onkl P, Spetakkel, Gabrielle, DJ Broiler, Ylvis, Madcon

I'd have to recommend Glittertind, myself. They've just released a new album, too - Blåne for blåne. Worth giving a go. I also rather like Lars Bremnes.
