I don't understand the background of the word 'nog'. How can it mean 'yet' and 'more' (and also 'still' when put with 'steeds')

It doesn't translate cleanly into English. In Italian I think it would roughly be "gia" (not sure, my Italian isn't very good.) It is a functional word that expresses a state of continuing-ness. I think it is most useful to learn its uses case by case.

As a native speaker, i'd say 'Wat meer brood, alstublieft' would be a correct translation as well.
