Is this "We are eating dinner (just now)" and "We eat dinner (and do not skip it)"?

Might be a bit late, but tea is the same thing as dinner in British English (or atleast it is down south)

Once upon a time, middag was actually the mid-day meal. Today it is mostly eaten in the afternoon/evening.

Where I come from, dinner IS the mid-day meal. The evening meal is "supper".

But I gather that this word refers to the evening dinner only.

No, the final meal is "kveldsmat" (evening food). :)
