Our Duolingo Heroes
This is just a little bi monthly post I make to celebrate the people who make Duolingo the place that it is.
The question is this: What user/users have inspired you to keep moving, to push forward. What users have made you feel at home here, have guided you on your Duolingo journey, and brought a smile to your face, and hope to your heart? Please, name them below. So many of these shining stars go unthanked. Now is your time to thank them ;)
Some of my heroes are:
Enigmatic Tiger-one of my first Duolingo friends, he always makes me smile with his tiger pics, supportive comments, and hilarious gifs!
panagiotists13- Another one of my first Duo friends, he has been such an inspiration for me, and helped me so much with my Greek.
Taloua- My awesome translation partner and friend.
paulaha88- Her comments always brighten my day, and she has been such a help with my Spanish journey.
languagelover0- One of my later, but best, Duo friends. From her serious upvoting skills, to her "constructive criticism,", she has been such a help, insperation, and a friend to me here.
And dozens more I couldn't even start to describe.
Thank you to the people who make this site the blessing it is :)
Everyone is a hero
Everyone is a heroine
and tomorrow awaits ........
for yet another hero/heroine to arrive
with us our open arms to embrace
with our knowledge there to share
alike to others
"infectious" is it not. ?
A wee smile and then a wee smile there
and soon before we know it
... we are smiling too
There was a bird somewhere,
It flew not-know-where,
It used to sing lovely and bright,
throwing smiles, & throwing light,
Always singing (it sings a lot),
So, so sweet (God wot).
Where it went, don't try to guess,
He is singing at this Address. : D
Okay, I mean 'this Website' from 'this Address', and from 'a bird' I mean the person who currently has a bird in his profile-picture whose comment I am giving this reply. (^_^)/
A great thank you to
EVERY SINGLE [former/current] BSCT MEMBER, really guys, every single course will make some one happy, even if it's me :)
TanytopiSal, about the most random topics we can start a (kind of) conversation, and they're always awesome!
exception2, for helping me so much with the BSCT
Aaditsingh8, for introducing my to the great Indian culture together with Abhilasha ;)
JaneEmily, for giving me some Ninja work ;)
And really everyone else on Duolingo, you all make Duolingo an even better place :)
Sorry if this becomes an essay… I love my friends, and I miss them too.
First up, is my raccoon friend… Vicky!
This girl, can throw a bunch of stuff at you, and you would never catch it. All she would have to do to make a person cry, is earn her normal amount of XP. I remember sitting in front of the computer, staring at my leaderboard, going like… What just happened to Vicky… She made me understand, what a friend was, and what a friendly opponent was. I was once laughing at her, because I beat her on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, she’s gone now.
Second up, is my friend, G2DIPI!
This guy, speaks English like a native, speaks Spanish like a native, yet his native is only Spanish. I’m guessing his favorite word is XD or something like that… Like… one of the first people I ever met on Duolingo, and one of the most hilarious people I have ever met! I have changed the number of people I have followed, yet I have never pressed the unfollow button, on his profile. I have never even considered pressing it, because I know, that he is a true friend, that shouldn’t be left hanging there.
Third up, is our favorite tiger, EnigmaticTiger!
I don’t get how anyone could NOT like him? Like… who doesn’t like a tiger, who sits around, sending gifs all day? He changes his picture each week, and most of us Duolingoers sit at his profile, waiting for the profile pic change. Personally, I refresh my computer, until my mouse is broken. We have all missed him very much, and he has left the Duosphere ever since his trip to New York. I’m starting to hate New York, because of that. First Vicky, now him.
Fourth up, our favorite Polyglot…. Teenage_Polyglot!
I never get tired of clicking his profile, because I love chatting with him, since he is one of the people that haven’t left Duolingo yet. He is really… the only one who understands how I feel about Vicky leaving, Ryan leaving… etc. He’s helpful, and a great friend. I don’t get tired of chatting him, although I think he does get tired of chatting with me. :P
Fifth up… I’m out of words to describe people… but this is it. Tobias!
When I look at his username, I’m thinking… Vietnamese? Nope, it’s Danish! We are teammates in the SU Games, and he’s an easy person to work with. He listens to me, and we did win for the first task. He’s a nice guy, smart too.
Sixth up… One of the smartest people on Duolingo! https://www.duolingo.com/KcaJP!
He told me the glitch for lingots. He’s a North Carolinian. He’s a Wolfpack fan. He’s a fan of piano guys. What’s not to like?
Some of you guys aren’t with us, I try to forget about you guys, just to keep the tears away. You guys come back to me, and I’m not leaving you. :)

paulaha88 has definitely contributed to me making a lot more progress than I would have otherwise by flawlessly running a great competition :) I've also seen her help out people with Spanish and it's great to see how much time she puts into helping people here.
EnigmaticTiger is a great member of the community, always spreading his seemingly infinite enthusiasm. :)
AlexisLinguist sets high goals for herself and keeps reaching them, and inspires me and many other Duolingo users by doing that!
het_aapje amazes me with the amount of effort they put into learning four languages at once, and it's clearly paying off!
Lavinae is simply an amazing person, with everything she has done and is still doing for the Dutch course and the community in general. :)
El2theK continues to surprise me in her relatively new role as course contributor and moderator; I'm glad to see her carrying out that role, tirelessly answering questions and explaining difficult points of Dutch grammar!
languagelover0 amazes me by converting time into XP and translation tiers at a rate that's just unbelievable!
Last but not least,
Gymnastical has become someone who lightens up my day simply by seeing her studying Dutch and Swedish on Duolingo. She's a truly friendly person and we're lucky to have her here :)
Thanks for including me in your post! :) How did you manage to highlight and bold? I tried and I couldn't do it.
Thanks for your super kind words. I'm going to put you in my list after I'm done reading through all of these.
Moomingirl: Tvillingen min. She has a lot of self-determination, and keeps going even when it seems too difficult to continue, and I love that. She's always been my driving force ever since we decided to be each other's crazy stalkers. :)
duonks: His continuous cheering from the sidelines, while he's blazing through courses himself, are very encouraging, and it's motivating to watch his progress, and that pushes me to go harder. Plus, he's a good friend.
bookrabbit: She has accomplished so much in so little time, and shows no signs of stopping! Maybe she has a bottomless well of magic, but I'm inclined to think she's really smart, talented, and hardworking!
There are tons others, but these are the ones who come to mind first today!
Thanks for the mentions, Vicky, M, and shedolina. :)
Basically everyone on Duolingo has made me feel at home here. Sure there are the moderators, ALL of them have been so nice to me, especially Usagi, Alexis, and you. QQJoy is also awesome, and so is TatianaBoshenka. Of course, there are so many more that cannot be named because it would make this post too long. :P Come to think of it, almost EVERYONE on Duolingo has made me feel awesome!
bemk92- When he saw that I'm learning Dutch he took me under his wing and has been supportive of me and got to know other sides of me to the point I would call him a friend. He's always there to answer my questions as well as (whether he's trying to or not) make things better for me in other parts of my life.
Lavinae- She always has something nice to say about everybody and while she takes her job seriously, she always remembers to have a little bit of fun and I like to have that fun with her. She's also a great motivator.
Teenage_Polyglot- He's someone who maintains the peace and ensures people are being nice to eachother and that has improved the forum experience for me. He's also someone who you can just have a conversation with for the sake of having a conversation.
EnigmaticTiger- He's great with the humor which reminds us all to remember to have a little bit of fun. And he knows the right kind of humor to use for each individual person and before we even think of it. And he's just someone to talk to for the sake of it.
AlsEenPoffertje- She knows how to have fun with us here and sometimes turns up to help when I least expect it.
Erven.R- looks at my trees and tells me what I need to do and by when. It forces me to have the discipline to keep pushing myself to my limits and will recognize achievements.
And last but not least, sheldolina- She's very kind to me as well as other users. She's also very helpful in the forums. All of that while also motivating me by learning at an insane rate (making me want to live up to what she does knowing that if she can do it so can I) and she takes the time to click the like button for everything I do. Just a few seconds for her motivates me and reassures me and reminds me that I can make it far and I have high potential. And it makes me feel like she's celebrating my success with me. Since I appreciate her doing that for me, I have returned the favor. She's someone friendly I can turn to and we are lucky to have her. Not to mention she also listed me in her comment (though that's not why I put her in mine)
After having another road trip today, this really made my day! Best thing I've seen today. From tired to really energized and fully motivated! Thank you sooooooo much! I'll try to say that in Swedish: Tack sa mycket [Am I right?].
for the most part. You forgot the accent mark in så. so it's "Tack så mycket"
That is so sweet of ya!!!!!It's always good to brighten someone else's day and make em feel good!!!:):):):):);)
AlexisLinguist - inspires me to stop procrastinating... She sets high goals and always reaches them!
Deliciae - Min norske venn! Amazing, she has helped so many people and kept my love for Norwegian & Norway alive :D
Gaga986 - Helped me so much with Serbian and always inspires me to carry on with my Dutch tree ^^
Lexi_Paloma - Lexi is also so amazing, from helping with translations, Serbian and support to being friendly allowing me to try out my Serbian every now and then :D
M4rt4a - Marta is amazing and her achievements are amazing too, I haven't seen many people finish trees in such a short amount of time! :)
OKAMOTO_Yusuke - Encourages me to aim high in my languages (25 in FOUR languages :O), great translator & always helping people :)
Sheldolina - Learns French and Italian like me and has finished both courses :D She's also a very helpful member for the Duolingo community.
Takk så mye min polsk venn! I need to catch up with Norwegian before you finish that too! ;) XD
Just to name a few, I am sure I have MANY more!
(I love my Alexins! ;) )
I have some awesome friends, here, on Duolingo!
IndianGurl13- She was probably the first Indian I had an informal conversation with :P
Tanytopi Sal- She's another one who talks funny. (okay yes she also does that) :P
Pratyush.- I guess our mutual interest in Sanskrit and depths of Hindi made us talk about the topics. We like to have discussions about languages, specially Indian ones.
alixinIreland- He motivated me to learn Irish :P
AlexisLinguist- Who can forget her!? :P She was always informative and I also told her a lot about my country.
jitengore- Well, the WIU are awesome aren't they?? :D
That's why I don't have a separate 'internet name'. :P It's kind of a jhanjhat :P
Yeah, it's well and good to throw everything about your identity face-first into the internet.
Haha, well.... a name isn't a bad Idea is it? I don't have problem in sharing my name! :P I'm not sharing my address am I? ;)
Everyone here in Duolingo are heroes [except for the spammers and downvoters] but these people have a special spot in my Internet heart/life:
- AlexisLinguist - From her title, she is already a "superhero". She is a really good friend of mine and she helps a lot of people
- AnIsAPan - Moren min [I think I should parody every comments/posts of Alexis :P]. She gives me motivation especially when she talks to me.
- Teenage_Polyglot - He somehow helped me with my Spanish and he always asks how I am feeling.
- Lrtward - Always asks me how I am and a very good man. :D
'Thank you to every "Duolingot" here in Duolingo.' I don't know why it's showing up as 1, lol.
And thanks for being one of mine, for several reasons, one of which for making the word "Duolingot" ;). You rock Erven!
I bet I am one of those spammers. Lolz, adding you to my list:Erven.R, an awesome person, a very attentive person, "likes", and up votes a lot!
AHHHH I'M 4 (YES 4) MONTHS LATE. THANKS :P (This is what you get for not being active on Duo, Annie.)
Jayway223 - Great language skills and often stops by to drop a comment or encouragement. You're the best!
Gluehbirneee - Great contributions to the forum and omnipresent encouragement! Thanks so much!
All course contributors - for volunteering their time to help us!
Thank you, Jonny! ^-^ You have no idea how much this made me smile. :) I would also like to say that your language skills are also very impressive. :D
Hmm, I would not call them "heroes", but they are definitely some of my favourite people here:
AlexisLinguist; for her very helpful and informative comments and posts, and her impossible leader-board XP scores, which really can be an excellent motivation!
Usagiboy7; for being a great moderator and their hard work as a global mod (since I cannot imagine what hard work that could be). I commend you. :)
AnIsAPan; the way she chats with so many people on here, and her overall friendly attitude really encourages me to interact with all of you more :)
Deliciae; for always leaving likes on my I-gained-a-skill-activities, which can be quite nice and motivating to see. It is also because of her that I am considering starting the Norwegian course soon. :)
RangerWillTreaty; while she is unfortunately no longer active, she was one of my first followers and the first commenter on my activity. I still have not forgotten her "you're doing really well with your German!" comment.... :)
m.tastic; simply for making some really enjoyable posts!
This will probably be a short list because I don't really talk to anyone /.\
But here goes:
TanytopiSal - She's just funny and good to talk to :)
Swifty139 - I'm fairly certain his knowledge of French exceeds mine and he can hold up a French conversation much better than I can ^-^
Deliciae) Linn - Linn helped me a lot when I first started doing immersion, patiently correcting my numerous Spanish errors, and helping me learn. Since she became a Norwegian course contributor, she hasn't had time to help me, but we have stayed good friends, and chat constantly. She is a wise, kind, amazing woman, and a huge source of advice and encouragement to me. She has pushed me (very gently) to push myself into doing longer and more complicated sentences, and has offered me tons of help in all forms.
EnigmaticTiger) Ryan - I met Ryan when I was relatively new to Duolingo. I loved all his funny comments and GIFs, and finally had an opportunity to talk to him. From the first moment I saw his adorable tiger face, I knew we were going to hit it off, and I was right. He always puts a smile on my face, and we often chat in Spanish, which has been a great help to me.
Teenage_Polyglot) Jack - I only met Jack a month or so ago, mainly because he was such a good friend of Ryan's, and I was interested in meeting him. A week or two ago, I had the joy and privilege to be added to his friends list, and eagerly added him to mine.
Fantatico) - Fantatico has given me lots of help and encouragement in Immersion, especially in Portuguese and Italian. He constantly posts the most encouraging things on my stream, telling me to keep it up, and that I am doing extremely well.
Iphigenia) Gena - We met while the up vote glitch was threatening the calm of Duolingo, and Gena and I worked closely together to compile a list of affected Duolingoers, and when it was solved we continued to be friends. She has helped me quite a bit in my Italian, offering many helpful edits and links.
AlexisLinguist) Lexi - What can I say besides amazing and inspirational? We raced together in the Norwegian tree race (In which she soundly whipped my butt :P), and I cannot cease to be amazed by her amazing accomplishments, and I am proud to be her friend.
QQJoy) Joy - Joy has been a good friend, who is exasperated with me half of the time (because she can't keep up on the xp board :P), and is constantly unfollowing me whenever she gets too tired of seeing me so far ahead of her. But despite this, I feel that we have maintained a good friendship. I feel that she is more of a "friend" than the others, who feel completely and totally out of my league, with their amazing accomplishments and wonderfulness.
AND OF COURSE ALL OF THE MODS, ADMINS, AND COURSE CONTRIBUTORS ARE HEROS TO ME!
Thank you, Vicky! I'm glad I took some time off to browse the forums between all the error reports, because this just made my day. ;)
It is we who should count ourselves lucky to be able to call such a kind, generous, driven, and resourceful person as yourself our friend. I know I do.
... *pushes very gently* ...
Vicky, you are awesome! I constantly unfollow you because I like to win and when you are there, it's impossible. But you taught me a lesson, "You don't get what you want, but you earn what you want. " Vicky, one of my bestest friends!
I believe that you and I both have a competitive streak, which means that it is a miracle we don't clash more often. :P
Thank you Vicky, I didn't expect to see my name pop up at all and am touched that you have mentioned me all I can say is that everything you have said about me, applies equally to you and I am proud to call you my friend. ............... I know you have already been nominated but nonetheless. I nominate Languagelover0 Vicky, a good friend who I came to know when we worked closely for the best part of a day to try to solve the upvotes problem and who is an unfailing source of support both to me and many others. I second what everyone else says about you here, you are an inspiration.
