Música em português

Oi gente!

(And feel free to correct my grammar…)

What a neat idea. Thanks a lot for making the playlist. I guess I should also thank all the people who supplied Grooveshark with their Brazilian CD rips. :-) I've been playing your selection on and off all afternoon.

I'll keep updating it, sou you may always find something new there... feel free to show me the music of your people as well! Maybe we can can share regional playlists in a new topic later, what do you think?

A good idea. I'm British and although I love a lot of music from Britain, it tends to be well known throughout the world (in fact, when I was in Brazil some of the radio stations seemed to play nothing but songs from here or the USA).

You guys have some wonderfull music in Britain that nobody knows in brazil. I'm not talking about the big hits, but I'm a big fan of trip-hop and Moloko (Roisin Murphy), Morcheeba, Portishead are great bands that nobody knows here. I'm sure there must be some nice scottish/irish cool bands as well... All accents in britain are awesome but it's hard to find them in the big radio stations.

Roisin Murphy is awesome! And I'm loving your playlist--can't believe I'd never heard of Elza Soares! Thanks again. :)

The singer/actor Seu Jorge loosely translated some of David Bowie's most famous songs to Portuguese and sang them with just acoustic guitar accompaniment in the film "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou". The results were little Anglo-Brazilian gems like these:

"Life on Mars" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKyvk5w4Ujs
"Rebel Rebel" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-7I73GCQW8

Hello! I am brazilian and I can say that your grammar is very good (you just made a few mistakes of gender - masc and fem -, but nothing serious). Congratulations! You are progressing! :-D You exemplified some brazilians popular songs (I love it) but, if you would to listen our Rock, I recommend Legião Urbana (my favorite band), Titãs, Capital Inicial and Cássia Eller. \o/

Tempo Perdido, by Legião Urbana: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cArxGv_m8k Primeiros Erros, by Capital: Inicialhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5DpcztJT0c (This song is beautiful) Enquanto houver Sol, by Titãs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSR1V4IxCF4 Mudaram as Estações, by Cássia Eller: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OALWGodvmPU

Pato Fu (playing famous songs with toys only, great result!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7aLQrx1iDE

Ney Matogrosso (singing old sambas from 20's and 30's - the best "Tico Tico" ever): http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB9BEF681470EBF28

(Sorry about the gramar, I am learning)

Roberto is our Elvis (the king), Milton Nascimento is knowed as "the voice of god", Chico Buarque writes very well but sounds better in Bethânia's voice and I think Caetano's best album is called "Livro", he also says this is his best one ;)

they're all great and very respected, you have a nice taste!

Ah, Brazilian Rap. I looked for a suitable YouTube video and found this duet featuring Gabriel o Pensador and one of the "grandes" of Brazilian music, Jorge Ben Jor, singing "Surfista Solitário": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jDJXjSeNIg. It's probably not typical of his style of music though.

Charlie Brown Jr, Marcelo D2, Nação Zumbi, Planet Hemp, O Rappa, Racionais MC's, Sabotage, MV Bill, RZO, Black Alien, BNegão E Os Seletores de Frequência, Emicida, Projota, Rashid.

Wow, you actually learnt all that through DuoLingo? I think you either learnt with friends too or you are a natural with the portuguese language. When I first read it, I actually thought you were a native speaker, since there are few mistakes, and I almost didn't catch them. Well done.

Anyway, since you asked and you're still learning I'll point out some errors:

  • Eu gosto muito ( de) da música brasileira. (feminine word)
  • mais sobre a música. (missing article)
  • algumas coisas(musicas) novas -- not really wrong, it just sounds weird to say recommend new things, rather than new music
  • adoro a Marisa Monte -(missing article)
  • é muito divertido(a) - (feminine word)
  • e até do
  • muito bonito(a) (feminine word)
  • Tem(Tenho a) certeza
  • de quais canções ---remove bold word

blush Thank you! You're right, I didn't just learn on here. My dad is Brazilian, and I grew up listening to a lot of this music and visiting Brazil in most summers, although we mostly spoke English at home. I don't consider myself fully bilingual, but I hope someday I could be. I've definitely improved a lot thanks to this site, especially in spelling, but obviously I still have a ways to go.

October 4, 2013

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Dessamator

That much was obvious, you used slang in a way only a native speaker would. When I saw "botei", I knew something was unusual. I'm sure you are close to being bilingual, but people tend to revert to their mother tongue whenever they are angry or annoyed. You've probably seen many such moments growing up, when you were naughty.

October 4, 2013

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/anomalocaris

Huh, I thought "botar" meant "to put", but apparently it's "to throw"! It's funny--I can understand most of what's said to me, but there are pretty basic things that I don't know how to say. Last time I was in Brazil, at age 20, I realized I didn't know the days of the week! It was super embarrassing.

Yesterday I was listening Brazilian songs while I was going to college, all of the sudden I noticed 3 songs are fairly easy to understand, because the singers sing word by word...

1: Marisa Monte: Diariamente http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEA4N8t8Nac

2: Seu Jorge: Life on Mars (Portuguese version) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6l8zrsf4LY

3: Titãs: O Pulso http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eixKc_6fbo

If you did not understand... At least enjoy the songs : )
