They're somewhat similar, and Italian can help you with Spanish. But it can also confuse you if you're not careful.

They are both Romance languages and therefore quite closely related. I don't know for sure how similar they are compared to other Romance languages... But in general, Romance languages are all very similar, they usually have a large shared vocabulary (minus different endings etc.) and the fundamental grammar is almost the same IMO.

If you don't know any of them fairly well, it can be very confusing to learn two Romance languages at the same time because of the similarities... But if you have the basics of one Romance language solidly memorized, it becomes quite easy to learn another one.

They are similar. Not at first glance though. A friend of mine (he's Italian) just graduated with a masters in Spanish Literature and I asked him if it was hard doing Spanish from Italian. He then laughed out loud. Then simply said no. Don't worry, you will get a hang of it soon.

Hey I'm also 12! I hear they are close. My dad speaks Spanish. We've been to Italy. If someone speaks slowly in Spanish, Italians can almost understand everything they say!

Hola ¡también tengo 12 años! Escucho que están cerca. Mi papá habla español. Fuimos a Italia. Si alguien habla despacio en español, ¡Italianos casi pueden entender cada cosa que dicen!

How much of that did you understand? I might've made a few errors but I don't think so.

Some words are, and the grammar is similar, but in general there are two completely different languages.
