Difference: Desde, Desde que, Hace, Desde Hace?

Hi,

I know they all mean somewhat the same, but have a different meaning at the same time.

I have figured out the following: - Desde: Is usually followed by: Time. - Desde Que: Useally followed by a verb. - The rest: ???

So in this example:

  1. Venimos a esta parque .... 2 años.
  2. Mario no ha dejado de trabajar .... terminó la cerrera de Economics.
  3. Juan y Paula ..... estudiando Medicina 7 años.
  4. ... más de 7 años que vivo en Holanda.

Where you have to pick between: Desde, Hace, Desde que, Desde hace, Lleva.

I picked:

Desde for #1, because it is followed by 2 años. Desde que for #2 or #3, since both are followed by a verb. But not sure which ones belongs where. And no clue what belongs at #4..

Can someone help me out here, please.

The first answer in the link seems to explain it pretty well, I think, though I'm not seriously studying Spanish (yet). I hope this helps.

Hmm, yeah, truemi's link looks good, so I won't try to explain that further. Since llevar doesn't show up in the link and is in your options, though, I'll add this:

The verb llevar is commonly used to say that you've spent time doing something or living somewhere. So "Llevo cinco años estudiando español" means "I've been studying Spanish for 5 years," "Llevo tres años en Miami," means "I've lived in Miami for three years." (That will be your answer to #3, though it's conjugated wrong in your options.)

Moving this to "Spanish" as it is a more fitting place for this discussion. Good luck! :]

Thanks for the replies. Can someone confirm if I use HACE in the last sentence then?

  1. Venimos a este parque (hace) 2 años.
  2. Mario no ha dejado de trabajar (desde que) terminó la carrera de economía.
  3. Juan y Paula (____) estudiando medicina 7 años. Esto está mal, se podría decir "llevan"
  4. Hace más de 7 años que vivo en Holanda.

En la numero 1 se puede usar "Desde hace" dependiendo de lo que se quiera decir.
