Though from the sentence you can tell it should be 'komforta', in the audio it really sounds like 'komforto' to me

So does 'komforti' mean "to comfort", as in "when you are sad, I will comfort you" "Kiam vi estas malfelicxa, mi komfortos vin" Is this correct?

No, „to comfort“ would be „komfortigi“. Fakte en via ekzemplo mi dirus „kiam vi estos malfeliĉa, mi konsolos vin“.
