Shouldn't it be "northerly", not "northern"
I've heard both but in all the police dramas I have seen, the suspect was "proceeding in a northerly direction".
A northerly wind blows in a southward direction. I bet this guy is going northward, toward a northern location (relative to his starting point).
At least you know where you are going.
He is travelling in a northerly direction towards a northern location.
That’s just ‘north’.
