One whole year of Duolingo German!!
I feel extremely proud of this accomplishment. I have finally been able to prove my ability of self-betterment to myself. To all those who may just be starting a language, just remember that there was a point when everyone had a streak one day long.
My opinions are already expressed in my one hundred day benchmark post, so I will make this short and sweet. I feel like I don't have to keep pushing this streak for sentiments' sake so I think I will work on immersion independent from Duolingo from now on. However, I will forever be grateful for this app for teaching me such a valuable life skill and making a huge, positive impact on my life. I'm also considering learning a second language on the side, possibly Swahili. Either way, Duolingo helped spark my passion for learning languages and I can never forget that.
I think you are making a very wise decision. After working here on French for a year I realize that there are now better places to pursue my advancement in the language, but I will be here at least another year to do what you just did- learn German! Congratulations!
Thank you! I may return for another language but at this point, Duolingo has nothing left to offer me for German, except maybe practice.
I think immersion is good and all that, but trite translation is not very conducive to learning, in my opinion. However, it may work for some people, it's just not my favorite. I prefer listening to podcasts, although I could use a lot more fluency.
Wow! I admire your French ranks! I'm trying really hard to learn French, but it is hard to find French speakers around where I live.
All that Duo. will do (or all it did for me) is make you good at reading French, and faiirly good at writing it. For speaking and listening, you have to find other sources.. Many have been mentioned here in various streams.
Wow - that's dedication. I've been doing it on and off for 1 1/2 years and I'm only L14 and my streak is a measly 25 days...
Thank you! I think the levels are just a decent comparison medium but they don't really mean too much. And streaks are also not too important. Just make sure not to forget too much, get some practice on the downtime, etc. I just like the streak because I'm extremely particular about numbers. The number going higher and higher just gave me somewhat of a rush. It'll hurt seeing it drop back down to zero, but that just means that I have to build it back up again.
I did it a while back and got four stars. I didn't do one lately so I might do one soon and report back.
Thank you! I look forward to much more exposure to the German culture in the years ahead!
Awesome, that's fantastic to read. Herzlichen Glückwunsch! Way to go and bonne continuation as the French say ;-)
Just started learning German here on Duolingo. I wish I was at your level... hahaha Right now it seems "a bit" impossible, honestly, but I'm sure it will get better. Congratulations on your accomplishment!
Wow! Hearing stories like this is very inspiring to give the rest of us a nice morale boost to keep pushing forward. I see you are well on your way with Spanish too!
The next step would be to actually visit a German speaking country and stay for a pro-longed amount of time if possible... or if there are other German speakers close by that would be great for you.
