I noticed there is already an iPhone phone application for this website, but will there be an Android application soon, it's good to learn on your free time like on the bus or the train.
So development of the app hasn't started yet? That's a bummer. How long did the iPhone app development take? At least we can get a sense of how long we'd still have to wait for an Android app.
I'm a Senior at Computer Science, Android app development doesn't take that long to do as long as you have the design (which i'm thinking they already do cause it's the same as iPhone's app) and also iOS development and Android development are pretty pretty much similar, they just need to take the decision, I would do it for them if I didn't have final exams theses days and also i'm busy learning German :P
I disagree. And I think trying to mimic iOS on android is the wrong approach, it would be like writing an application for OSX and jumping through all kinds of unnecessary hoops to make it look exactly like the windows app. If Android users wanted an iOS app, they wouldn't be Android users ;) You want to write the application native to the platform for the best results and usability.
I've been a pro software engineer for 17 years. I just wish life was as easy as you say. :-)
Oh I was going to post the same thing, I'd like very much if they do an android app :-)
They have stated before that they are working on it. Sadly they gave no indication of a release date.
I will definitely love it if I have it on my phone! please let us have it! :P
An android app would be awesome. But it would make more sense to first make a smartphone friendly version of Duolingo.
4% of market share, would you be willing to spend your money with those numbers?
This isn't the first thread asking for this but since it has been brought up again, I too would love this feature. I can use Chrome browser on a Nexus 7 tablet but need to pinch to zoom in/out constantly to get the text, buttons in correct or useable location. A dedicated app would be so much better. If only I'd taken Computer Science 101 back in the day, I'd gladly help out in development!
Not everyone can afford an Iphone or an over-priced apple product. Pleeeeze make an app for the droid in us too! I'd do it myself but I don't have thumbs...:)
An Android app would be very beneficial for my crazy schedule! I hope you find a dev soon!
I think it would be wonderful. I'm learning German on my iPod, and my father saw. I knew how he had been struggly with wanting to learn Spanish (being able to find no fun way to learn, he gave up.) I decided I would get Duolingo on his Android and show him--only to be dissapointed that there was no app. Patiently waiting for one, Mels
Android application would be a dream come true. Not to mention it's the biggest and fastest growing mobile OS environment, so I guess it's a must. But please hurry!!!
My husband says he just got an update on the iPad app that will let him work offline in duo into and we are still waiting for a Droid app! Please......
(Within a year after launching its Android app, nearly half of all Instagram's user base comes from the Google-powered operating system.) = over 100 MILLION users
Duolingo are you getting the picture? You have been delaying for over 3 years. Without Android where is your growth going to come from? Knock Knock... are you listening yet?
An android app would be nice. It's annoying that android's version of flash doesn't implement the microphone class. Whenever I try to record something, duolingo says it can't hear me or can't understand me. The site works great otherwise; I just did a lesson during a quiet moment at work.
I too would like an Android app. Would also like to be able to use it on NOOK. Thanks. duolingo is really helpful.
Really need the android app to this. Why does iPhone always get everything first?
+1, Please add for android. And if you have any idea when it would be available, let us know. Great product!
Count me in. I spend many hours a week away from my desktop. I do not leave home without my Tablet.
Yes, I am telling everybody about this great learning tool, but it is not available on all phones.
This would be immense!! I love duolingo, android app is a must to keep this site brilliant
