'av' is used if it's 'made of'.

"Den er av tre" = "It's made of wood"

Yep. However, it's almost more true to say that Norway wraps around Sweden. There are parts of mainland Norway that are east of all of Sweden, and east of most of Finland, and border with Russia (and are at the same longitude as Kiev and Alexandria).
