In English we use "us", but why not speaking in Dutch as "net zoals ons"?

Perhaps it's closer to the English construction "They are religious, just like we (are)". The 2nd "are" is implied.

Why does net sound so close to niet. It is very inconvenient.

They are religious, like us. => This is the default correct answer, but it doesn't add the "just like" part. I don't think, consider other exercices where translations are very strict, that this sentence is actually that acceptable. Is it the same to dutch to say "zoals wij" than "net zoals wij" and therefore is it the same in English between "just like us" and "like us"?

Can't you also translate "gelovig" with "pious"?
