Heavy Metal i Sverige

Är det vanligt att hitta människor som lyssnar till Heavy Metal i Sverige?

If you look up Icelandic music it's literally all heavy metal, it's creepy... lol. So many Nordic languages have great heavy metal bands, it's weird. Must be the weather/mood up there.

I thought Björk and Sigur Rós were the default Icelandic music lmao

I'm a big heavy metal fan, that's why I asked that. And the mood altered by lack of sun could be something to influence the culture, but at least in Norway the revolt feeling against the Catholic church over centuries has most contributed for movements like Black Metal.

Ja, hårdrock är väldigt populärt i Sverige och resten av Norden.

(Yes, heavy metal is very popular in Sweden and the rest of the Nordic countries.)

But from 0 to 100%, how would you grade the chances of finding in your day-to-day someone that listens to Heavy Metal? If you asked me the same about samba in Brazil, I would say that in my city (São Paulo) it is more common to find people who listens to it above 30 years, and the youth is losing these traditions due to new musical movements.

I can't give you a precise number, but if you're meeting people younger than 50, your odds of coming across someone who likes some form of heavy metal are pretty good.

In Gothenburg, the city where I live, there are multiple metal gigs every week and there are clubs, music stores and clothing shops dedicated to serving the subculture. Metal is prominent at all major music festivals and there are even a couple dedicated entirely to "hårdrock", which is the catch-all phrase for hard rock and heavy metal here.

Hope that gives you an idea. :)

Hej! Sorry to jump in on this post, but I'm actually going to be in Gothenburg this time next week, from Friday until Sunday, and was wondering if there are any metal shows happening and where are the best places to go for metal pubs/bars?

Thanks!

I'm not out on the town much these days so I'm afraid I can't be of much help with specifics. To find gigs you could have a look at http://gigguide.se/events/?cityId=1293genreId=23 , or for more general events http://www.evenemang.se/g%C3%B6teborg/ .

As for pubs and bars, Sticky Fingers is a bar that will usually have some sort of rock/metal thing going on. Other than that there used to be clubs called Rockbaren and Belsepub, but I don't know when, where or even if they're still running. It's fairly common to find metal bands playing at all sorts of pubs and bars and in the summer there are outdoor gigs all over the place so casting a wide net might be a good idea.

I'm really not in the loop these days so sorry I can't give more solid recommendations, but I hope you'll enjoy your stay. :)
