I'm still not really sure what "el plazo" means after "learning" the word on Duolingo. Can someone please give me the best translation and then some other plausible translations?

I don't know what Duolingo says, but "El plazo" means "the time limit", lets say: "you have to do it within 5 days" - "Tienes 5 dias de plazo para hacerlo" It can also be used for marking time, short/long term, corto/ largo plazo
