Days don't start at 11pm

Why do you start my days at 11pm. Lost my streak at 11:00pm. Why not at midnight?

June 3, 2015

What time zone were you in when you originally created this account? That is the time zone it should continue to be in. I am careful on Sunday in the afternoon the new week starts, which should not affect the day streak, but I don't take a chance. Also the last and first day of the month and year are days that I don't take a chance with. I definitely do my practice in the morning on those days. http://duolingo.wikia.com/wiki/Streak

I signed up 3 days ago in CDT and I am still there.

You beat me to it :) I was about to post the wiki "Streak" link.

That is my comment. It was not midnight yet! I more than met my target for the first two days. Today is my fourth day and I am on Level 7.

Not sure what your problem is but could the 1 hour discrepancy be connected with daylight saving time?

No, if it were daylight savings time, it would be 1:00am.

How long was your streak?

Day 1, I joined and worked, day 2 I worked, day 3 I worked but at 11pm, and lost my first 2 days, day 3 I worked and started a new streak, today is day 4 and I worked.

There's definitely something going on here. I'm in United States Pacific Time (currently Pacific Daylight Time), and my day starts well before Midnight; I think mine actually starts at 9 P.M.

Yes, the program is located on the US East Coast and their system is not adjusting for other time zones. So the streaks are not about "days" they are about 24 hour blocks. Big difference...semantics. Sometimes it is hard to schedule before 11pm in my days.

That is incorrect because I am in the UK and my day is midnight to midnight GMT.

I believe that your own timezone is set to what it was when you first registered with Duo. You can see where Duo thinks you are by going to www.duolingo.com/users/your_username where you will see a lot of HTML like code. If you use your browser to search for timezone, you will see which timezone Duo thinks you are in.i

Same issue as pkh97; Duolingo thinks I'm on the East Coast of the U.S., but I've lived in California my whole life. I've looked around for a place to change my timezone but haven't seen one anywhere, and I don't recall seeing an option to set or change it when I registered.

I haven't changed my time zone! I only started less than two weeks ago. It says New York...never lived on the East Coast. Thanks!

Have you checked your users page as described above? Maybe your computer is set up for the East coast timezone?

It says I am in New York. I am not.

Psionpete The link doesn't work that you gave

He means to replace the end with your Duolingo username, like so:

Yep - I'm also in the Pacific timezone and my days reset at 9pm. (This actually kind of works for me - it means I don't lose my streak because I generally get the next day before I go to bed...)

At least your day starts close to the real deadline. Mine is at 5 p.m. I think it's Indonesian time and I live in Europe. I emailed support about it and got no answer. I also read a lot of similar threads and they all seem to come to the same conclusion. Basically, you can't do anything about it. But if you use android apps, your time zone might change based on your location. So if you go traveling, your time zone might change.
