Well, something appearing monthly can hardly be called a newspaper, or can it?

Yea.... More of a Gazeto

Any difference between ĵurnalo and gazeto? Esperanto doesn't seem to be big on synonyms.

"Gazeto" is broader and it can include magazines and other printed periodicals. That said, "gazeto" is a viable translation or newspapee, so you just need to report it.

Thanks. Since this was EO->EN, there's nothing to report.

The difference seems a little blurry http://www.simplavortaro.org/vorto/%C4%B5urnalo seems to suggest that in practice it's more or less a synonym for gazeto at this point, even though maybe some dictionaries consider it more inclusive of things like personal diaries? (but I'd probably say taglibro for that, as does my copy of Benson's English-Eo dictionary)
