I have a question about the correct solutions given here. Why does "er" go with "bortafor" and "står" with "bortenfor"? Would "Treet står bortafor huset." be wrong?

'bortafor' and 'bortenfor' means the same. "borta+for" and "borten+for", it just different "genders" for 'borte'. Note that 'borte' is not a noun.
