La ursoj ŝtelis ĉiujn postenojn, por havas monon por biero...

shouldn't this be "por havi"? I couldn't tell you why, but "por havas" just feels incorrect...

Honestly, I would pretty much bet on me having made an error, especially a year ago LOL

Yes.

"por havi"

"por ke li havu"

Is posteno different from laboro?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/johmue

Indeed it is. Laboro is work like in "It's a lot of work to answer all the questions in Duolingo."

Posteno is a job like in "I applied for a new job which gives a higher salary". Note that you cannot use "posteno" like in "You did a good job in setting up this website." There you's use "laboro"

Estas multe da laboro respondi ĉiujn demandojn en Duolingo.

Mi kandidatiĝis por nova posteno kiu donas pli altan salajron.

Vi faris bonan laboron starigi tiun ĉi retejon.

Here's how I remember it (and why the words were assigned this way in the first place):

Laboro is labor, as in "a labor of love." Posteno is when you're given an assigned station, or post.

Ohh, "post"!

That helps, I kept seeing "Postenon" as "Poste-non" or "After now" and was really confused.

Would've also helped if I took off the accusative ending while looking at it.

Good mnemonic. Thanks ;-)

Laboro is like "I have a job to do today."

Posteno is like "I have to go do my job today."

At least, I think that's how it is.

It's easier when you speak Spanish, Portuguese or Italian: Puesto (de trabajo) / Posto (de trabalho) / Posto (di lavoro)

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/kmile1

or French: poste (de travail)

Ĉar mi ne havas postenon, mi studas Esperanton.

I used to get a "posting" from the union hall, so I get it about "postenon" = job, but if I am free- lancing , or doing informal non contract labor or consulting is that " postenon" or" laboron" ?

Vi ne bezonas postenon. Vi nur bezonas kontentigi viajn bezonojn. Mono estas tro komplika perilo…
