Rapid De-gilding in French?

Does anyone else experience freakishly rapid de-gilding of their French tree? I typically have 15 or more modules that have lost their gold status overnight (today I had 17 down). My other trees (I've finished German and Spanish) typically only lose 2-4 per day.

What gives?

It is similar for me and frankly speaking I find it very discouraging. Especially at the bottom part of the tree where I am now skills seem to stay gold only for one day - the day I complete them and then they change colour immediately. I have even given up to strengthen skills for now and just focus on finishing the tree and then I will try to go through all topics again...

I am guessing (and this is just a guess) that the revision of the French course is what has caused more rapid deterioration. We were introduced to a set of new concepts which the course does not think can be planted in our long term memory as of yet. I am re-gilding each day to see if this lasts very long. If it does, I will likely abandon the tree, as the exercises are becoming too mindlessly simple.

Yep, I when I practice the skills I've lost it's always the new vocabulary that comes up the most. Especially 'Prepositions.'

Yes, I have noticed this. But for me, it's been 3 or 4 losing their gold status in French, whereas my German tree would stay gold for two or three days before going down

It may be possible to get on a treadmill. In French, my new skills lately degrade after 5 days, and lately many other skills often degrade about 3 days after I've done a strengthening exercise. If I were to re-gild 15 older skills on one day, three days later, I would probably get about the same amount needing gilding again, at least in the short term. Eventually, some skills rarely if ever need to be gilded again. So, it might be possible that you could gradually decrease the number of skills needing to be refreshed every day by doing fewer strength exercises per day, and limiting the number of new skills per day. Anyway, that is just a theory. I have fewer come up for me each day than you do, but am going to try to reduce that even more.

I'm not sure if my Spanish degrades less quickly, or if I've just been less focused on Spanish right now. There may have been more than 2-4 skills degrading each day.

Same with me. And more often it seems to be certain ones that deguild, and certain ones quicker than others. I can't be on the tree every day. And redoing the same ones amounts to nothing better than "spinning my wheels" - burning more energy but getting nowhere. And that's just frustrating. I couple language learning on Duolingo with language learning on other sites. Gives me a better perspective on what progress I'm making.

I just had 50 de-gild at once. I've been keeping up with the 10-15 per day, but I'm about to walk away if 50 becomes the new norm.

50...that's insane.

I've definitely experienced this problem, and I find it diverts my attention to the basics when I should be focusing on building on new exercises. At first, I thought it was perhaps motivated by your rate of error, but it seems highly unlikely, as my Italian tree is always fine. In addition, I have an issue with one of my strength bars never refreshing despite the fact that I've repeated the lessons several times. It remains at 3/4 in any case. A truly frustrating situation.

This happens to me all the time, it'd be nice to know why this seems to only happen for the French course :|

I completed the tree and did my best to get everything all golden. Almost the whole tree dies the next day. orz

I just don't care to put much energy in keeping the whole thing golden anymore. It's too much of a hassle.

And it's just the French for English tree, too, as far as I know. My French for Spanish tree stays at about a normal rate.

Yes, same.

Yesterday my tree was completely golden. Less than 24 hours later, 15 skills have been de-gilded. I have barely made progress down my tree in months because I have to keep strengthening skills.

I do not have hours every day to dedicate to strengthening my tree. Using Duolingo used to be fun; now it's more like a chore. I probably won't be here much longer if this keeps up.

If people haven't seen, they changed the system for skill strength overnight/today, so that's why so many have de-gilded (https://www.duolingo.com/comment/9051575). Hopefully this change fixes things, cause my skills kept decaying quite a lot!

Now, I find that one of my very earliest and most BASIC skill sets have dropped down. I can MAYBE understand if the more advanced have dropped, but MOST BASIC? If I keep redoing this, I'll be "spinning the wheels" so long I'll soon be running out of gas...
