Silly, but...where's my trumpet?!
I quite enjoy that trumpet tooting its horn for me so that I don't have to toot my own when I master a skill.
What ever happened to that trumpet? I never hear it anymore when I master a skill.
Perhaps not the most urgent language discussion, but I always looked forward to it.
How curious. It worked yesterday for the first time in a long while, but I just mastered a skill and, alas, no trumpet.
Has anyone figured out why the trumpets stopped and how to get them back? I liked them. I haven't heard them in a long time now.
Bill, mine got sorted 4 years ago. Bren helped me through email, but I cleaned out my inbox a couple months ago and don't remember how we fixed it. I just did a lesson and can confirm that the trumpet is there for the rest of us. What browser are you using and have you tried it in another browser?
I am using Firefox. I'll try using IE or Chrome on tomorrow's lesson to see if I get Trumpets. I had trumpets until a couple of months ago.
I just tried it using Google Chrome and got trumpets. Also, it automatically says the phrase when you advance to the next windows, which Firefox doesn't. I suspect that the issue is Firefox adblocker.
Is the trumpet sound not working in the app? The website doesn't have sound effects.
Someone hasn't learned or mastered a skill in a while :P. The website does play a trumpet sound for those glorious events.
Kamelia, I'll see if it's still working for me.
Tyler?! Bren?! Someone fixed it and I suspect it was one or both of you! I just got trumpeted at! :D Thanks!
I've only ever used the website. The trumpet used to work on it after a skill was mastered. It's not the end of the world if that was changed for some reason but for what it's worth, it was cute.
...is there some sort of setting that controls it? I haven't changed any of my settings and I still here all of the other sounds (i.e. when the fembot reads sentences).
Not any that I know of. Have you tried in other webbrowsers? Maybe an update to yours broke it?
Skye, I didn't update my browser in that period of time. However, I like your suggestion. When I reach the end of my next skill, I will do the last lesson on my iPad and see if I can hear it on there. It can help me determine the source of the problem. I'll post an update when that happens. Thanks!
Maybe the speaker setting? I don't remember it playing when I had that option turned off.
I have to say yesterday when I mastered a skill I also did not hear the trumpet anymore..
I only hear the trumpet on the website when I go up a level through Real World Translations. Lessons don't give me any trumpets.
It's silly, but this is actually the reason my mother does a ton of French practice when I and my iPad (with the app) are around, but none when she just has the website. She LOVES those trumpets.
I haven't used the website but the app still sounds a trumpet, maybe if you turn the volume up you will hear it lol
I posted down below somewhere, but I just tried it using Google Chrome and got trumpets. Also, now it automatically says the phrase when you advance to the next windows, which Firefox doesn't. I suspect that the issue is Firefox adblocker. I'll try unblocking the adblocker and see it it works. I may try updating to the latest version of Firefox.
I think that might have been it. Yeah, if you don't feel like switching ad blockers, I'd expect that disabling it for Duolingo would do the trick. When I had this issue, I was using Adblocker. I use UBlock now and it hasn't been an issue.
So yesterday at work I got a new computer and the Firefox adblocker was turned off. I got trumpets.
I use FireFox's Ad-Blocker-Plus. It is a little red stop sign at the top right of the page that has a ABP on it. Once I had a Duolingo page open I selected the tab for "Disable on Duolingo.com" and now I have trumpets always. Also, with it disabled it automatically says the next phrase when you advance to the next window. ABP was preventing that before.
