A guy posted a post about Bliu Bliu so I checked it out just now: https://bliubliu.com/en/

trying German to see how it is. It gives a paragraph. When you click on the loudspeaker icon, a voice reads it to you. There is a button that you can click on and it'll translate the paragraph into English.

You get to click on words to tell it if it's easy or difficult.

I've only tried it for a few minutes. To save my progress, I'd have to open an account.

It has lots of other languages that are in beta.

It's free and they also have a Premium version which costs money and they want Euros. It gives more unlimited access.

Like Duolingo, you can sign in through Facebook or Google + or have a username and password.

One lesson it has is: Das Schöne bei Bliu Bliu ist, man kann lernen ohne Angst vor Fehlern zu haben.

A male voice will read the German and it sounds like a native speaker, not a robot.

The beauty of Bliu Bliu is, you can learn to have no fear of making mistakes.

It uses Google Translate to translate to English.

I got a welcome email from Bliu Bliu just now and it has some testimonials in it:

" must say that I think Bliu Bliu is one of the best things since sliced (and toasted) bread. :) Maria

Bliu Bliu makes me feel that I know more than I thought. I watched one video in German and it turned out that I knew almost all the words of the song! I don’t mind learning grammar but this seems like a more fun way, with real texts and videos. Ieva

I'm learning Japanese because I love the language. I've been learning for almost 2 years using several different methods but Bliu Bliu is the greatest idea I've heard in forever. Marmia"

Seems very good, the problem is the translations provided, most of them are crap. I tried Latin and many words had a wrong translation (like the flashcards here...),

Like for example 'eras' (were, as in you were) was translated as 'tomorrow'.

One problem is that Google Chrome tries to translate the page into English, so I had to tell it to restore the original foreign language.

I went on Bliu Bliu just now and it's got: "The Beautiful at Bliu Bliu is , you can learn without fear against errors to have ."

It has this because Google Chrome translated it to English and the voice was reading it in German.

I had it on German just to try it out to see how it is.
Yeah, it only goes for 5 minutes.

What's so interesting is that Gmail tries to translate emails that are in foreign languages too and one time it was translating my French penpal's emails from French to English.

It's interesting to me that it just seemed really weird to me to read her email translated to English, so I switched it back to French.

Seems really good, only 5 min sections in the free version then you wait 5 mins for the next session, means that you can dedicate just 5 mins a day to it then you sould learn lots. I would love to know if anyone has tried the challenge.... I might when i finish the other programs I am paying for now, 1 at a time :)

Actually, just now I opened one lesson and it had the 5 minute timer running. Then I changed it to another lesson and it reset the timer and had another 5 minutes. So maybe when it runs out, you could just change it to another lesson. I'm new to Bliu Bliu. I only tried it out a yesterday to see how it is.

You can just wait a few minutes and then use it again for free for a few minutes. Perfect for a quick reguilding session on Duolingo in between... ;-)

I guess they are counting on this going back and forth becoming so annoying that people upgrade. If the translations were actually accurate, this might be the case, but with just a good idea combined with these bad Google Translate translations, I rather think the end result will be that users go elsewhere instead.

I ran one of the German paragraphs. The timer went to 0 and I could still play the recording. I was still able to press the button to get the English translation.
Anyway, I copied the German paragraph out into my notebook. I write down all the Duolingo sentences too.

If you don't want to pay for the premium, yeah you can always wait about five or ten minutes to use it for another five minutes.

Meanwhile, you can get back on Duolingo and continue practicing the language that you are studying.
