More languages on Amazon Kindle app?
So recently I have been using Duolingo a lot more than before, and I mostly use it on my laptop, but sometimes when I'm eating or doing something else I use my app on my Kindle Fire. The problem is, there are only the first 5 languages (Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese) on the app. I would also like to be able to learn my Swedish and Norwegian on the app too, but they don't have them on the Amazon Appstore app. I know that they won't release Norwegian on any of the apps soon any way, but I would appreciate it if Duolingo could add the other 5 languages that are on the IOS and Windows apps to the Amazon Appstore app.
The Duolingo stopped being updated in the Amazon store some time ago (I believe sometime in the summer of 2014). I have not found any definitive info about the reasons, but it seems that either DL (the company) no longer submits updates to Amazon for inclusion in the store, or Amazon no longer accepts them. My guess is the former, that it likely requires more work for submission than DL is willing or able to allocate.
Some updates to the app were required to support the newer languages, so if you only use the app from the Amazon store, you are, as you mentioned, stuck with the original set of languages. However, if you or someone you know has a device that runs a standard version of Android, then you can get the app from Google's Store, and sideload it onto your Fire. I gave instructions for doing this about midway down this discussion thread: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/5890005
There is also some discussion on that thread about the reasons why you might or might not wish to sideload apps. I have continued to update my Fire from the Google store since I wrote the instructions 5 months ago, and I have had no problems with it (in fact, it is rather more stable now that it was with the app from the Amazon Store, though that could also be due to recent updates to the Fire OS).
Okay, thanks. I've been using Duolingo since last summer and I haven't seen any updates. Also, I use my laptop too and if i didn't, I wouldn't have been able to post this, and I just got an iPod not too long ago so now if I need to use Duolingo, I can just use that. I was just wondering.
