I dunno, I nearly always translate esperar with "to wait". Here: "I wait for you to understand." But I assume that would be "Eu espero por você para entender", right?

The best translation in this case is "Eu espero você entender".

Here you do not use subjunctive since it is a real statement, a fact, I mean, not a wish.

That is the present subjunctive (você entenda), at least that's the sentence given here in the Duo discussion forum.
