Past Tense

Since there are no Tips and Notes for this lesson, can someone explain to me how to changed verbs to get the past tense in Ukrainian?

In Past Tense verb usually takes these suffixes:

  • "в" - ив (ів), ав if the subject is masculine

Він говорив (He spoke), Він відпочивав (He relaxed), ВІн сидів (He sat)

  • "ла" - ила, ела, ала if the subject is feminine

Вона просила (She asked), Вона співала (She sang)

  • "ло" - илоло), ало if the subject is neuter

Воно летіло (It flew), воно працювало (It worked)

  • "ли" - илили), али if the subject is plural

Ми танцювали (we danced), ми ліпили (we molded)

Infinitives in Ukrainian end in ти. If a verb has a consonant before ти (бігти), than that verb doesn't need any suffix in singular masculine: бігти - біг, нести - ніс

Let me try with the verb "співати".

Я співав (if I'm a man), я співала (if I'm a woman)

Ти співав; Ти співала

Вона співала

Вон співав

Воно співало

Ми співали

Ви співали

Вони співали

Is that right?
