Small question regarding when days begin
New here. I've been trying to keep up a respectable string of consecutive days, but I've been frustrated by signing on in the evening to find that the "day" is already over and that my day counter has been re-set to zero. Since I'm on the west coast (US), I thought maybe the reset was at midnight eastern time (9:00pm my time), but this doesn't seem to be the case. How do I know when my deadline is for a given day?
On my homescreen it tells me how many hours until the day ends, does it do this for you?
It's easy to forget that which is familiar, it's why I can never tell anyone my password, but still manage to type it.
Okay, yes. It says less than an hour left. It's 9:30 pm now. That means my day ends sometime around 10:30pm? That's annoying, but at least I can find it--thanks.
Wish you the best of luck with your new streak, don't forget to buy a streak freeze.
Mine doesn't as far as I can see. Where is it on your page?
I've noticed that, sometime in the past couple of days, my day change-over has moved from midnight UK time to 6pm UK time and I do not understand why.
On the home tab below the fluency shield there is a circle telling me how many more XP I need to reach my daily goal, to the right of that it tells me how many hours are left and how many days long my streak is.
Thank you. I have not enabled the Coach feature so that explains why I cannot see the time left.
It doesn't explain why my DL day now seems to start at 6pm instead of midnight. This maybe something to raise in Troubleshooting.
Thanks for that. It says ""timezone":"Asia\/Saigon"" which is nonsensical.
Thank you. Mine says New York (instead of a west coast city), however, further down the code there is a time offset entry of -4.0 hours. This would appear to be an attempt to compensate for the time zone, but I'm three hours away, not four. Furthermore, I'm already behind New York, so it seems like the compensating factor should be set to +3.0 so that my day corresponds to my actual midnight hour. I suspect something similar is going on with AureliaUK. Either way, it looks like something we cannot control. Which is a shame, as my day flips right in the middle of my prime evening do-my-own-thing hours, making it very frustrating to deal with!
Unless there has been a problem with your account, the day should begin at midnight for you. That is, it corresponds to the time zone you were in when you first established your account. So if you move, it will stay the same as your original time zone so keep an eye on that. I hope this helps! :)
mine seems to be on east coast time... and I am not, nor have I ever been on the east coast. I've gotten used to it, but it really seems like there should be a way to adjust that
This no longer seems to be true. My account was made on the east coast of the USA but I am currently in Tokyo and the timezone has changed to Tokyo.
It never was true. It also depends on the particular gadget you are using. If it's one that automatically changes the clock when you go to a different time zone (such as a cell phone), it will change even the history of at what date past XPs were earned. So one just has to be careful.
Instead of worrying about when the time ends, just try to make Duolingo a regular habit. If you are free at 3 or 4 PM every day and make it a habit to use that time to use Duolingo, you will never miss your streak.
Yes, if that were possible, it wouldn't be an issue. I can sign on every day; unfortunately, not at the same time every day. sigh
