There's some difference? e.g. with samen you go to the cinema and watch the movie too, without samen you could be just giving him a ride. This make any sense?

No, there is no difference. We sometimes drop 'samen'. ;)

In that case, I would drop 'samen', so 'Ik ga naar de bioscoop met Willem'.
